Guwahati News Desk: Due to the incessant rains and prevailing flash floods in Himachal Pradesh, at least nine people are feared dead, seven are reported missing and two have been injured.
The saddening event occurred in the cold desert district of Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, on early Wednesday.
The tragedy occurred following a flash flood in the Tozing rivulet in Udaipur subdivision, some 15 km from the district headquarters of Keylong, after a cloudburst.
The State Disaster Management Director, Sudesh Kumar Mokhta, informed that seven people died in Tozing Nullah in the Udaipur sub-division of the Lahaul Spiti district, and two men died in the Chamba district, due to the flash floods triggered by the cloudburst.
Mokhta further stated, “Twelve people were washed away due to a flash flood after a cloudburst in Tozing Nullah in Lahaul. Of the 12, so far, seven dead bodies have been recovered while three persons are still missing from the incident site. Two people have been rescued.”
Meanwhile, a search operation for the missing persons is underway at Lahaul-Spiti with the help of the state police and ITBP teams.
