Guwahati News Desk: Due to the prevailing flash floods triggered by cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, 7 people died, 12 were rescued and 27 went missing on Wednesday.

Kishtwar’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shafqat Hussain, informed that 7 bodies were recovered and 12 persons were rescued in the cloudburst that hit the Hunzar village in the Dachan area of Kishtwar.

The SSP further informed, “Seven bodies have been recovered, 12 persons have been rescued so far while 25 to 27 are still missing.”

The SSP also informed about the rescue missions in the area, stating that the police, army, and SDRF were strictly engaged in the rescue operations.

According to sources, the rescue teams had to cover 25 km of motorable road and then trek 15 km to reach the disaster site.

However, the heavy rains continued in the area and further continued to hamper the ongoing rescue operations.

Condoling the loss of lives in the district, President Ram Nath Kovind expressed that he was deeply saddened by the death of many people.

Meanwhile, a severe weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, forecasting widespread heavy rain that can cause further flash floods, landslides, and also waterlogging in several low lying areas.
