Guwahati News Desk: An All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader was killed and two others, including a journalist, were injured in a mob attack following an alleged road accident in Assam’s Jorhat town on Monday.
The incident took place at Nirmal Chariali area of Jorhat town. The deceased youth has been identified as Animesh Bhuyan (24), who was the Education Secretary of Brahmaputra Anchalik Committee under Golaghat district AASU.
The incident reportedly took place after an elder person was injured in a road accident.
When Animesh Bhuyan and two others tried to save the injured person, some people gathered in the area allegedly attacked them. A video of the mob attack has surfaced on social media which shows some youths attacking Animesh Bhuyan in front of police personnel.
A police team had immediately rushed the injured to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. However, the doctors declared Animesh Bhuyan brought dead.
According to reports, the AASU leader along with two others had visited Jorhat town for some personal work on Monday. Meanwhile, Jorhat district police arrested ten persons in connection with the incident.
Jorhat district Superintendent of Police (SP) Ankur Jain said, “Our investigation is on. We have also launched operation to nab other persons who were involved in the incident.”
Six of the arrested persons were identified as Bitupon Das, Bikram Das, Subhas Das, Abinash Bora, Deba Das and Mohan Das (old mad). Jorhat district AASU has demanded immediate arrest of all culprits within 24 hours.
