Guwahati News Desk: 32-year-old Mustafa Sakir died in an accident near the Assam Engineering College, in front of Hostel number 1 at 4 PM today According to Jalukbari traffic Outpost, Sakir was travelling from Jalukbari towards Satmile at a high speed, loses his control and hit an electric post. He was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College, unfortunately, he was declared dead. The two-wheeler has been kept at the Jalukbari Outpost and his body at GMCH for further post mortem.

Recently a cab driver caused an accident at Dighalipukhuri, he first hit a car that hit another bike, all three vehicles suffered damages in the accident. The road accident data analysis of the Assam shows that in the year 2019 there have been 8250 accidents, resulting in 3207 deaths. Similarly, in 2020 there are 6593 accidents that occurred and 2629 death reported.

Assam Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in a statement said, ‘75.30% of the cause of 2,629 deaths in 2020 in Assam was due to over speeding despite the fact that the movement of vehicles was restricted in view of the Covid pandemic situation. Out of 2,629 deaths, 48% occurred on the national highways of Assam. Therefore special drive has been undertaken to check over speeding on highways.’

The speed limit on NH ranges from 40-100 km/hour. The speed limit is less in some places which are vulnerable, accident-prone and black spots. But in other areas, it is up to 100 km/hour. The fine is imposed as per the speed limit decided by NHAI.
