Guwahati News Desk: The prolific Malayalam lyricist Bichu Thirumala breathed his last on Friday.
According to his family, the 80-year-old veteran lyricist was undergoing treatment in a hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. However, he breathed his last at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram in the early hours of Friday.
Mourning the demise of Thirumala, the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan said that the former through his lyrics brought film music closer to the people.
In addition, the Education Minister of Kerala, V. Sivankutty also offered his deepest condolences.
Regarding Bichu Thirumala, he is considered to be a prolific lyricist in Malayalam mainstream cinema from the 1970s till the 1990s, penning over 3000 film songs as well as several devotional songs.
He also won the Kerala State Film Award for the best lyricist for the films ‘Thrishna’ and ‘Thenum Vayambum’.
In addition, the most memorable songs of the late lyricist include of ‘Pavada venem, melada venem’, ‘Olathumbathu irunu’ and ‘Ayirum kanumum ayi’.
Moreover, his only son, Suman Bichu, is a music director.
