The demand came into rise while participating in the 63rd Foundation Day of the ACMS, held at the headquarters in Dibrugarh on Monday. The demand was raised as it will help to revive the tea industry in the state however, a matter of fact it has to struggle a while.

According to the sources, the President and former union DoNER Minister Paban Ghatowar said that setting up a tea ministry in Assam will be a historic time for Assam and also for the tea industry as past over 195 years it has provide livelihood to millions of people across the world.

The government of Assam and policy makers should come out and stand together to provide ideas and shapes to revive the tea industry, said Ghatowar.

Due to ongoing pandemic the tea industry is facing continuous hardship in the market as Assam tea has its major contribution in the State’s economy as millions of people were involved in this industry starting from production to packaging to marketing and sales.

The tea ministry would play a vital role during the pandemic to take an ultimate decision and would provide the necessary thrust for its revival.

According to the sources, nearly 51 per cent of land in Assam is used to produce tea. The annual tea production in Assam dropped to 618.20 million kg from 716.49 million due to the coronavirus pandemic.
