Guwahati News Desk: The pioneering Emmy-winning American actress and comedienne Betty White passed away at the age of 99 on Friday.
Although sources stated that White died at her home on Friday, yet the cause of death was not immediately revealed.
Meanwhile, the saddening news of White’s demise sparked an outpour of tributes.
Taking to Twitter, President Joe Biden wrote, “Betty White brought a smile to the lips of generations of Americans. She’s a cultural icon who will be sorely missed.”
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hands out the Oscars, referred to White as “a legend, trailblazer and cultural icon who blessed generations with her talent and humour. She will be truly missed.”
Regarding White’s inspirational journey, she was initially engaged in the field of modelling, after which she did a stint in the American Women’s Voluntary Services during World War II.
After the war ended, White segued to radio gigs, reading commercials and playing small roles. Her first regular television work was “Hollywood on Television” (1949).
In addition, she was also one of the first woman producers on the 1950s sitcom “Life With Elizabeth,” in which she also starred.
In the later stage of her life, she used to interact with her younger fans on Instagram.
Moreover, White has won a total of five primetime Emmys, two daytime awards including one for lifetime achievement, and a regional Emmy in Los Angeles.
However, with the demise of such a soulful actress and comedienne like White, it is not only the US television audiences that are mourning over the great loss, but audiences all throughout the world are deeply disheartened with the news of her demise.
