Guwahati News Desk: Asaam Water Resource, Information & Public Relations and Parliamentary Affairs Minister visited to take a stock of Udaipur, Newargaon and Dibong village which was situated in the banks of Rirap and Burhi-Dihing river along with MP Rameswar Teli and MLA Bhaskar Sarmah on Monday.
The Minister took a stock of the prevailing situation where soil erosion washes away portions of the habitable and cultivator land every year in the Newar Gaon due to the Tirap river.
The Cabinet Minister asked the Additional Chief Engineer of Upper Assam Zone and Water Resources Department Ivy Dasgupta and other officials of the department to install a defector in the necessary stretches of the rivers.
The Cabinet Minister also urges to take important measures like anti-erosion after doing a proper survey of the area.
Minister Hazarika also announces that the World Bank has sanctioned an embankment project on the banks of Burhi-Dihing river including portable roads on the same in the vulnerable stretches of the river.
The project might be the start in December or next year January as Minister Hazarika has advised the Water Resources Department to initiate a temporary anti-erosion task for which no part of the land is eroded during the season.
Minister Piyush Hazarika also added that the government of Assam has started a long term project collaborating with all the agencies working on the flood and erosion issues in the State.
