Guwahati News Desk: As per decision of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in a meeting convened on June 28, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi had issued instructions to State Committtees to carry out a series of protests against spiraling price rise of petrol, diesel and essential commodities between 7 to 17 July 2021.
A zoom meeting of all District Presidents held on Sunday with AICC General Secretary incharge Jitendra Singh Alwar and APCC President Ripun Bora along with MPs and senior leaders a series of programs have been chalked out from July 7 of July 17 of 2021.
1. From July 7 to July 17 all Blocks within each District Committee will organize protests maintaining Covid Protocol. They will sit in agitation for 2 hours and protest by taking out pots and pans with members of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and other block level organizations.
2. Cycle rally will be organized in city and towns under District Congress Committees to be participated by elected party representatives of Municipal Corporation and office bearers of DCC. Protest will be carried out with placards of slogan against price rise.
3. On July 17, a protest rally will be launched in the city of Guwahati centrally to be attended by APCC President, CLP Leader, MP’s, MLA’s , senior leaders, office bearers and members of Congress party.
4. Signature campaign in petrol pumps under District Congress Committees will be another form of protest and awareness program against price rise of petrol & diesel.
On the other hand, APCC condemns the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government for playing with the fate of of HSLC and Higher Secondary students of Assam through their hotch-potch attitude in the matter of holding examinations.
The recent announcements and decisions displays their complete lack of sincerity and sensitivity with regard to the future of students. The controversial and mismatched statements of the Education Minister and the Chief Minister has further compounded and confused the students, parents and guardians. Initially the Education Department was hell bent on holding examination and had announced to this effect since they did not have a robust internal assessment procedure despite widespread protest against holding of examination during the pandemic. Then giving in to pressure from stakeholders the Education Minister said that they will not hold examination instead give marksheets after internal assessment but with a condition that this marksheet can be used only for admission but not for getting any government employment. He also announced that a student can avail of a betterment examination later in 2020 if they are not satisfied with their marksheet.
Such an announcement was severely criticized by one and all.
To announce the marksheet as redundant while applying for Government jobs was totally unjustified. It is not the students fault that they could not sit for the exams so why deprive them?
For those who are career oriented and already gone ahead in their studies in various fields how practical would it be for them to again go back to sit for a betterment exam? To make matters more confusing Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma then gave a completely different statement from that of the Education Minister that the marksheet will be eligible for all employment except TET appointments.
Such contradictory statements of the Chief Minister and the Education Minister has exposed the faulty and dithering Education policy of the BJP Government which has been frustrating not only for the students, parents and guardians but general public as well. The APCC demands that the Goverment should immediately end this stalemate and take quick decisions for the future of these lakhs of students.
APCC has observed that from the day KMSS leader and MLA Akhil Gogoi was discharged by the court of National Investigation Agency ( NIA) and subsequently Gogoi was released from GMCH, BJP Minister Piyush Hazarika has been passing derogatory comments against him saying that Akhil Gogoi was in Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for such a long time in a paying cabin instead of in jail as he had some tacit understanding with the authorities of GMCH. He alleged that by occupying a paying cabin for 18 months Gogoi had deprived common people from getting that cabin. In a similar vein CM Sarma too in a taunting remark said that he would like to know what vitamin Gogoi was prescribed which enabled him to get well so soon immediately after release? First and foremost Akhil Gogoi was in GMCH as per the Medical Board Report and as per instruction of NIA.
Such remarks by the CM and his junior Minister only expose their disregard for judicial authorities like NIA court. Secondly under whose Government runs the GMCH? Is it not their own BJP Government? So why don’t they order an enquiry of their own allegations? It only proves the sheer negligence and irregularities of their own regime.
The crackdown on illegal cow smuggling business with neighbouring Bangladesh and police raids on drug smugglers and their dens all over Assam have brought to light many facts. As stated by CM himself it had generated Rs 1000 crore business everyday. Now the question arises, surely the illegal business of cow trade and drugs did not start only in two months that is from May 2, 2021? It is thus obvious that such illegal activities were going on during the previous BJP Government. So what stopped the present CM from acting then? Wasn’t he a prominent Minister of the same Government? Wasn’t he part and parcel of the same Government? The fact that the Congress party was raising the issue of illegal cow smuggling for a long time has been vindicated.
