Guwahati News Desk: With the motive of solving the woes of the employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) in Assam, a total amount of Rs 700 crores have been approved by the Assam Cabinet.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in a meeting that took place at Dhemaji in Assam.
As per the sources, of the Rs 700 crore package, Rs 570 crore will go as a relief package to pay the dues of the employees, while the remaining will be used to pay other bills like electricity charges and payment to the liquidator.
The CM said, “A total of Rs 700 crore has been approved. Of the total Rs 700 crore, Rs 570 crore has been approved for HPCL employees as part of a relief package.”
Regarding the two paper mills, it was back in October 2015, when the Cachar Paper Mill had stopped functioning and the Nagaon paper mill had stopped functioning in March 2017. In addition, the employees of the two paper mills had been surviving without receiving their salaries for the last 55 months.
However, in his recent announcement, the CM further added that, the 470 acres of land owned by the HPC’s unit at Cachar and Nagaon mill in Jagiroad will be transferred to the state government.
Furthermore, the cabinet also approved Rs 1,800 crore to waive microfinance loans availed by poor women. For which, around 11 lakh women would be benefited by this new scheme.
