Guwahati News Desk: At least six people were killed and 16 people were injured after a passenger bus fell at Ringdi river in Nongcharm in Meghalaya.
The massive incident took place at 12 am as bus carrying 21 passengers fell into the river. Soon after the incident was reported rescue team and emergency services rushed on the spot to help the victims. The injured people were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.
During the search operation 16 passengers have been rescued by the rescue team as the accident took place at the Nongshram bridge which is situated in the border between East Gro Hills and West Khasi Hills district.
According to the sources, the local people get to know from the injured passengers that driver was speeding the bus and met with the accident. The front side of the bus hits the bridge post and later gets out of control and fell into the water. The bus driver was reported to be dead.
Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma tweeted, “Pained by the unfortunate MTC bus accident at Nongchram Bridge that claimed precious lives. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish speedy recovery to those injured.”
