Guwahati News Desk: A new bill has been placed in the Assam Assembly for the protection of the cattle in Assam on Tuesday.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led government proposed a bill in the assembly to protect the cattle’s as the proposal to ban cattle slaughter and sale of beef in the areas where Hindus, Sikhs, and Jain’s majority area in the State.
The new law proposed by the government of Assam is the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 which also asked to prohibit the sale and purchase of beef within the 5 km of the radius of a temple. The law will also seek transportation of cattle from one district to another district including outside Assam without proper documents will be illegal.
The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 was proposed in the Assam Assembly as cattle smuggling business was seen increasing in Assam as many cattles from Dhubri district was illegally smuggled to India’s neighbouring nation Bangladesh. Assam Police has already started its operation against cattle smuggling across the State and has arrested many supplies and smugglers and also recovered cattle. Cattle smuggling was seen as a common crime especially in the Dhubri district.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “the new legislation bill seeks to ensure that permission will not be given for slaughter in the areas of Hindu, Jain, Sikh and other communities and places who do not consume beef and selling ban within five-kilometer of the radius of a temple, satra and any other institutions that may be prescribed by the administration.”
