Guwahati News Desk: Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared his tribute to the first Chief Minister of Assam Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on his 131st birth anniversary on Sunday.
CM Sarma tweeted on the occasion, “My humble tribute to Assam’s 1st Chief Minister Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on his 131st birth anniversary. His contributions towards preserving the culture, identity and spirit of Assam, and ensuring her unity, are legendary, and shall be cherished forever.”
Earlier, the Borjhar Airport of Guwahati was named after him as Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport and the Jalukbari and its nearby areas are also named as Gopinath Bordoloi Nagar.
Bordoloi was awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously in the year 1999.
