Guwahati News Desk: The Government of Assam has declared the entire state as a ‘Disturbed Area’ for the next six months beyond February 27 under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

The announcement was immediately made by the government after 1040 militants of five outfit surrendered and recoveries of arms and ammunitions from a various location across the state in the last six months.

GoA declared a disturbed area by looking at the view of insurgent attacks on the security personnel in the northeastern region.

The AFSPA renewed every six months, empowers the security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone anywhere without prior notice. The AFSPA is also in force in Nagaland, Manipur (excluding the Imphal Municipal Council Area), Changlang, Longding and Tirap districts of Arunachal Pradesh, and areas falling within the jurisdiction of the eight police stations of districts in Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam.
