Guwahati News Desk: Close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that children aged 15-18 years will get the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination, the Assam Government will be publishing guidelines as to how children of this age group will be vaccinated. The Assam Government is waiting for the Government of India to issue detailed instructions in this regard.
“We are hopeful of starting the COVID-19 vaccination process for children aged 15-18 years from the first week of January 2022, at least in some places. Within 2-3 days, we will get detailed clarity regarding this vaccination drive and we will give away the right information at the appropriate time,” said Mission Director of National Health Mission, Assam, Dr. Lakshmanan S.
He added, “We are waiting for guidelines from the Centre regarding the modality of the vaccination drive and the duration of the vaccine.”
Meanwhile, till 6 pm on Monday, a total of 3,71,04,258 vaccine doses had been administered in Assam. Total 2,17,06,700 people got the first dose vaccine while 1,53,97,558 have received the second jab. On Monday, the vaccination drive was conducted in total 3,525 sites in Assam.
Amid speculations of another wave of COVID-19 following the emergence of the Omicron variant, Prime Minister Modi recently announced that the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination for children aged 15-18 years will start from January 3, 2022.
