Guwahati News Desk: On Sunday 28 November, the Principal of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay in Noonmati, Guwahati informed that the school will remain close for 6 days in light of two covid-19 positive cases detected from the school.

According to an official notification undersigned by the principal, Assam Jatiya Bidyalay stated that on Friday and Saturday i.e. on 26 and 27 November the RT-PCR test was conducted among all the members of the schools including staff, students and children.

And as per the result of the RT-PCR test published on Monday morning, it is found that two teachers of the school are covid positive.

In order to keep the situation under control and prevent the spread of the virus the school authority has decided to suspend classes for the upcoming six days starting from Monday 29 November to Saturday 4 December.

The school notifications have not mentioned anything about whether the classes will be held online from home during the closing days. The school has released the notice as per the covid guidelines to stop Covid-19 infection by following the covid-19 norms.

Earlier in October, the district administration of Dibrugarh closed the Jatiya Vidyalaya School located at Chabua of Dibrugarh for a week after the detection of coronavirus cases in the school premises as two students and four teachers of the school tested covid positive.

Among recent covid positive cases in educational institutions, a student of Little Flower School located in Guwahati city was found infected with the deadly virus at the beginning of November 2021. However according to the data released by the National Health Mission as of Saturday 27 November, Kamrup Metropolitan has found 53 new covid positive cases.

As the schools in the state have reopened after such a long break, the detection of covid cases in schools is disheartening for the school and its students. The students have already suffered a lot due to the lack of learning opportunities through the online method of learning adapted at the time of the pandemic. Therefore it is important for schools to follow the COVID-19 norms and guidelines in order to stop the spread of covid-19 infection.
