Guwahati News Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned the State Finance Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma from doing campaigning for the next 48 hours.
The notice was issued by the ECI on Friday over his remarks made against the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) Chief Hagrama Mohilary.
The ECI have asked Dr Sarma to explain his position as he had violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) as a complaint was filed by the Congress party over the violation.
All the scheduled public rallies to be held by Dr Sarma were cancelled under the Article 324 of the Constitution of India. The ECI has immediately cancelled all public meetings, campaigns, road shows, media interviews of all formats.
