Guwahati News Desk: The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district Kailash Karthik N issued an order for prohibition of storage, distribution and selling of zarda, panmasala, gutkha, sikhar etc with immediate effect on Thursday.
The order to remain in force until further orders as in line with the government of Assam order to implement the Assam Health prohibition of manufacturing, advertising, trade storage, distribution, sale and consumption of zarda, gutkha, panmasala etc containing tobacco and nicotine.
According to the sources, the report has been received following many school and college-going students have inculcated the habit of consuming unhealthy mouth eateries which were found easily in the shop although it is mentioned antisocial, creating a menace to the society.
Meanwhile to check such activities, the order has been passed to all circle officers, Superintendent of Police of the district which will ensure strict enforcement of the order through all the Officer-in-Charge of Police Stations, IC’s of Outpost within Kamrup district.
It was also mentioned in the released order that any person aggrieved with the order is at liberty to appear before the DC court within 15 days from the issue of the order.
Earlier, on Wednesday the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Kailash Karthik N issued an order notifying prohibit the use, sale and purchase of all kinds of recycled or virgin plastic carry bags throughout the Kamrup district with immediate effect.
The order was immediately implemented as plastics are injurious to public health and causing serious environmental hazards affecting both humans and animals.
The orders will remain in force for the next 60 days or until further orders.
The violators shall be punishable under the provision of section 188 of the Indian Panel Code (IPC).
Here are the following acts that are exempted from the preview of the order:
a) Plastic carry bags manufactured exclusively for the export purposes against any export order in a plastic industry located in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Export Oriented Units (EOU).
b) The plastic bags or multilayered films of sheet + excluding carrying bags) which constitute or form an integral part of the packaging in which goods are sealed before use at manufacturing or processing units.
c) The plastic bags and sheets used in forestry and horticulture nurseries against the orders from the government departments or the firms concerned.
d) Plastic bags or plastic used for packaging of medicine.
