Guwahati News Desk: Assam received 63 turtles of rare species which were airlifted from Pune of Maharashtra Forest Department on Thursday.
According to the sources, the turtles are of rare species found in Guwahati which includes Indian Roof Turtle, Crowned River Turtle, Brown Roof Turtle and Spotted River Terrapin.
In Pune, the turtles were with the Indian Herpetological Society and Rescue Charitable Trust which to be handed over to the Assam Forest Department and Turtle Survival Alliance in Assam and later they will be released into their natural habitat.
The rare turtle species to be sent by flight by the Maharashtra Forest Department to Assam to release in their natural habitat to other locations across the State.
The Assam Forest Department look after the rare species in a special way which will also help to grow the rare turtle species in Assam.
