Guwahati News Desk: The authorities informed on Wednesday, that a bombing attack which was targeted on Afghanistan’s acting Defence Minister, Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, ended up killing at least eight people and wounded twenty more.

The blast went off on late Tuesday night in a heavily guarded upscale Sherpur neighborhood, located in a section of the capital known as the Green Zone, where security remains very tight and is also the home to several senior government officials.

However, the targeted Defence Minister was not hurt in the attack.
Infact, Mohammadi’s Jamiat-e-Islami party was told that the minister was not in the guesthouse at the time and his family had been safely evacuated.

Even the current head of Taliban’s political office in Doha Qatar, Stanikzai, informed that it appeared the guesthouse of the acting Defence Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi was targeted in the attack but he was not hurt.

As per the sources, the blast was followed by a gun battle, but all the four attackers were shot and killed after five hours of fighting.

The Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, made a statement on Wednesday claiming responsibility for the attack, saying that the attack was a revenge for the recent attacks by Afghan national forces in various provinces that he said caused civilian casualties and displacement.

As per the sources, hours after Tuesday night’s attack, the Defence Ministry released a video in which Mohammadi said his guards had been wounded in a suicide attack.

After the attack, Mohammadi tried to assure the people by saying, “I assure my beloved countrymen that such attacks cannot have any impact on my willingness to defend my countrymen and my country.”
