Guwahati News Desk: The government of Assam has announced on Thursday that the beneficiaries for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines would be given top priority to maintain the gap of COVID-19 vaccines.
In the Assam Assembly, while discussing the health budget, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the pace of vaccination depends upon the supply from the Centre.
A total of 1,15,68,579 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administrated in Assam which includes 95,23,851 first doses and 20,44,728 second doses according to the data released by the National Health Mission.
Health Minister Mahanta also informed that a total of 12 lakh vaccine doses are in stock in Assam and another 4 lakh vaccines are soon to arrive by end of the day.
According to the sources, Assam has administrated up to 3.5 lakh COVID-19 doses in a single day as the health department has the capacity to provide 5 lakh doses in a single day.
The Health Minister further said that the State government has made a goal which was set in the month of July that all the first doses above the age of 18 years will be completed by August 15 while answering a question by MLA Rakibul Hussain.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta also informed that currently, Assam has 1,540 COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at present, among which 1,099 are dedicated for COVID-19 patients. Assam has 4 thousand oxygen-supported beds and over 24,000 isolation beds. The state currently has 17 COVID-19 testing labs and 24 more are about to start.
Assam reported new 1,067 COVID-19 cases on Thursday as the active cases reach 10,677 and 17 people were reported to be dead in the last 24 hours and 1,249 patients were discharged. Talking about Kamrup Metro, new 202 COVID-19 cases were reported with 3 deaths.
