Guwahati News Desk: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA of Sarupathar Biswajit Phukan proposed to set up a sports academy in the pugilist Lovlina Borgohain’s name in Golaghat district.
Currently, the MLA is supervising the construction of a motorable road to the village of Lovlina.
On Sunday, Phukan sent a proposal in this regard to the State administration.
Recently, Boxer Lovlina defeated former world champion Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei and assured bronze medal for India at Tokyo Olympics.
MLA Biswajit Phukan said, “Sarupathar has lots of potential in sports as we have a budding boxer, footballers, and athletes who can have a bright future as we have sent a proposal for setting up a sports academy in the name of Lovlina Borgoihain of her village to nurture talent.”
According to the sources, MLA Phukan has already identified 40 bighas of government land in Naharbari village to construct a sports academy which is 2 km from Lovlina’s birthplace.
The road leading to Lovlina’s village is muddy and becomes worsen during the monsoon season and the matter was discussed with the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, he was immediately directed to construct a motorable road before she returns from Tokyo Olympics.
The first phase of the road will be ready at the time of Lovlina’s return to India and she will not feel any jerk while coming back home which is a gift to her by the government of Assam, said MLA Biswajit Phukan.
