Guwahati News Desk: With the aim of discussing ways to resolve the 14-month-long military standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh, India and China held the 12th Corps Commander-level talks on Saturday.
The 12th round of Corps Commander-level talks concluded at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, after 9 long hours of discussion.
The meeting was held at Moldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
An army official stated, “12th round of Corps Commander level talks between India and China concluded at 7.30 pm in Oldi on the Chinese side of Line of Actual Control. In the nine-hour-long meetings, both sides discussed issues to resolve the ongoing military standoff along with the Eastern Ladakh sector.”
As per the sources, the latest round of talks took place after a gap of more than 3.5 months, as the 11th round of military dialogue had taken place on 9th April, which had lasted for around 13 hours.
The talks took place after the External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar firmly conveyed to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that the prolongation of the existing situation in eastern Ladakh was visibly impacting the bilateral ties in a “negative manner”.
In the talk, the foreign ministers of the two countries’, S. Jaishankar of India and Wang Yi of China, reached a five-point consensus on continuing dialogue and quickly disengaged, while honoring all the existing agreements and protocols on the China-India boundary affairs.
The disengagement is yet to be completed in friction points such as Hot Springs, Gogra, and Depsang.
Meanwhile, China asserted that both PLA and the Indian Army have disengaged in the Galwan Valley region. Speaking at a seminar in which CPI’s D Raja and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury participated on Wednesday, Chinese Ambassador to India, Sun Weidong called for a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution” to the border dispute.
Weidong added that China-India relations are significant to peace and prosperity of the region and the world at large.
