Guwahati News Desk: Indian boxer from Assam Lovlina Borgohain has qualified for the first round at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Thursday.
Lovlina to make her boxing debut in Olympics in the pre-quarters of thd first round of the Women’s 69 kg Welterweight category.
The first round of the pre-quarters is to be held on July 24. On July 27, Lovlina to face her opponent Nadine Apetz of Germany.
Lovlina is the first female athlete from Assam to qualify for the biggest event in Olympics.
A bicycle rally was organized and the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the launching of a goodwill campaign ‘Go For Glory, Lovlina’ in Guwahati on Wednesday who is representing India at the Tokyo Olympics 2021.
During the cycle rally in support of Assam’s daughter, Lovlina Borgohain’s father Tiken Borgohain was felicitated on the occasion and urged people to come together and cheer for Lovlina.
CM Sarma said on Twitter, “We are so proud of Lovlina who is the first female athlete from Assam to represent India at the Olympics and the second boxer after Shiva Thapa to participate in the same from the State.”
