Guwahati News Desk: It seems as though Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections will likely be conducted in the month of April despite March 10 being the deadline. There are various tasks still pending which have to be concluded before the elections can be held.
A highly placed source in the executive committee of Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that although the State Cabinet decided to conduct all urban local body polls across Assam before 10th March, for GMC they will be held in April. He further explained that among all the towns and cities in Assam, Guwahati has the largest voter population and accordingly the existing 31 wards were delimited and converted into 60 wards. As the delimitation has happened only in Guwahati, the election conducting process has to be distributed across the newly formed 61 wards.
