Guwahati News Desk: Two government officials of Assam Panchayat and the Rural department have been arrested by Dhubri Police with immediate effects for allegedly taking away government funds in Dhubri district.
The accused have been identified as Khabir Uddin Ahmed Block Development Officer of Gauripur and Akhirul Islam accountant of the block.
Earlier on August 26, two engineers Saddam Hussain and Abduyllah Al-Masud Mollah of the Gauripur block development office were arrested from a remote village in West Bengal.
Two engineers, identified as Saddam Hussain and Abdullah Al-Masud Mollah, of the Gauripur block development office were arrested from a remote location in West Bengal earlier on August 26.
After the corruption done by the officers came into highlight, the Chief Executive Officer of Dhubri Zila Parishad-cum-Project Director of DRDA Animesh Talukdar registered a case at Dhubri Police Station for siphoning off by the officers involved in the corruption. The case was registered on July 8 this year.
According to the sources, an amount of Rs 52.72 lakh was taken out from the officials from government funds for Gauripur block development.
FIR was also lodged against one contractor Jahirul Hoque proprietor of Jahirul Enterprises who submitted fake bills of Rs 52.70 lakh as duo engineers were clearing the bill as no work has found done for the department.
