Guwahati News Desk: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh escorted the Brigadier (Retd) R.V. Jatar, a veteran of the 1962 war, to the revamped Rezang La War Memorial on Thursday.
The Rezang La War Memorial is located amidst the inaccessible hills of eastern Ladakh, where Indian troops bravely fought the Chinese soldiers in 1962.
In addition, a video of the minister pushing the wheelchair of Brigadier Jatar was posted on Twitter by PRO Udhampur, Ministry of Defence, that read as, “Brigadier(Retd) R V Jatar of 13 Kumaon, who bravely fought in the 1962 Sino-Indian conflict, being escorted by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh.”
Dedicating the monument to the nation, Rajnath Singh referred to it as a symbol of indomitable courage displayed by the Indian Army that he said is not “only immortal in the pages of history, but also beats in our hearts”.
Regarding, Brigadier (Retd) R.V. Jatar, he commanded the 13 Kumaon’s Bravo and Delta companies at Mugger Hill during the battle of Rezang La, during the time of the India-China war that took place in 1962.
Moreover, the revamped war memorial has been inaugurated at a time when India and China have been locked in a bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh for nearly one and half years.
