Guwahati News Desk: A non-athlete person was tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in Tokyo’s Games Village.
The event occurred six days prior to the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.
It was the organizing committee, who confirmed on Saturday that a case had been detected in the Village.
The spokesperson for the Tokyo Organizing Committee, Masa Takaya said, “There was one person in the Village. That was the very first case in the Village that was reported during the screening test.”
The Covid positive person has now been removed from the Village and has been transferred to a medical facility. However, due to certain reasons, the organizers have refused to reveal the person’s identity.
The Chief of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Seiko Hashimoto said, “We are doing everything to prevent any COVID-19 outbreaks. We are sparing no efforts. We are doing everything we can to prevent any outbreaks. If we end up with an outbreak, we will make sure we have a plan in place to respond.”
2021s Tokyo Olympics had already been delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but was slated to start on 23rd July and run until 8th August, in which, spectators were not allowed to attend the events due to the fear of the virus spreading in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases are still continuing to emerge in numerous places all around the globe. Even as infections spread in Tokyo, experts are warning how worse may lie ahead of time.
