Guwahati News Desk: At least five workers were killed in a tragic fire accident at a shoe factory in Old Dhaka on Friday.
According to sources, workers at the factory in Old Dhaka’s Showari Ghat died from suffocation.
As informed by police officer-in-charge Mohammad Abdul Qaiyum, the bodies were recovered from the ground floor of the multi-storey building, and were then sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Chawkbazar.
On receiving the news of the incident, eight units of fire service rushed to the accident spot. In addition, it took nearly 2 hours for the team to douse the fire.
Regarding the cause of the fire, it was informed by the fire officials that the factory authorities had stored some drums filled with chemicals abruptly on the ground floor, which later resulted in the accident.
Moreover, the number of people working in the factory at the time of fire could not be known immediately.
