Guwahati News Desk: The State government has decided to provide driving lessons to 200 youths (boys and girls) of Kamrup (Metro). Announcing this here on Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma added that this will also go a long way in checking rash driving and saving precious life in the city roads. In this regard, the Chief Minister elaborated, the prime objective of this move is to gainfully employ unemployed youths.
Altogether 50 youths of each of the four LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) under Kamrup (M) will be eligible for this training and employment schemes. The four LACs are Jalukbari, West and East Guwahati as well as Dispur.
The criteria of the youths willing to opt for the scheme are: They must clear at least Class-VII in the age group of 18 to 45 years. Besides, youths coming under the BPL (Below Poverty Line) will get priority. After completion of their training, they will be provided with a one-time scholarship of Rs 3,375 and also the driving licences.
The successful drivers will be employed primarily in the Tourism sector. In this regard, they will also be provided with ’employable certificates’. The candidates will be trained by degree holders in motor mechanics from the government undertaking institutes. The experts will also provide personality development skills to the candidates.
