Guwahati News Desk: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari holds a meeting with the CEO’s of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in New Delhi on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Union Minister Gadkari discussed on the need for the quick roll-out of Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) which is capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol and gasoline into the Indian auto market within one year of time.
In the meeting it was also discussed about the passenger safety as Gadkari has appealed all the automakers to provide a minimum of 6 airbags in all the variants and segments of private cars looking at the interest of the passenger’s safety.
According to the sources, currently in the Indian auto market, no airbags were provided in the base variant like running car in Maruti Suzuki 800 or Alto 800 but in some other companies like Renault Kwid and Dutsan RediGO comes up with 2 airbags in the base variants and the top variants of every vehicle comes with 6 or more than 6 airbags.
To reduce accidental deaths and looking at the safety of the passengers, mandatory 6 airbags were asked to include in all vehicles in the meeting that was held with the SIAM. The government of India has taken a major step for the safety of the people.
According to the sources, the base model prices were always low as we can expect that after mandatory availability of 6 airbags in every variant there might be a hike in the price of the vehicles in coming months.
