Guwahati News Desk: The Gauhati High Court stayed a notification on Tuesday for hiking the minimum wage of tea workers issued by the Government of Assam.
It is an issue around which both the incumbent BJP and the main opposition Congress had wrapped their poll battle.
As the promises made by the BJP government, the Labour Welfare department through a notification on February 23, had enhanced the minimum wage of Rs 167 per day by an interim amount of Rs 50 which will increase to Rs 217 per day.
A petition was filed by the Indian Tea Association along with 17 tea companies had stayed the notification saying it’s “illegal in a much as, no Committee/Sub-Committees have been formed which is required under Section 5(1/a) and Section 9 of the Minimum Wages Act 1948.
