Guwahati News Desk: On Thursday, the pharmacist at Gauhati Medical College Hospital’s (GMCH) Central pharmacy was suspended from his service and is now awaiting an investigation into gross neglect of duty.
Mirza Mokibur Rahman, the pharmacist, was suspended today for gross disregard of government responsibilities in failing to provide life-saving drugs to clients at the GMCH Central Pharmacy. It was announced by an official declaration by the Office of the Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
“Pending departmental inquiry, Mr Mirza Mokibur Rahman, Pharmacist, Gauhati Medical College Hospital, Guwahati, is thus suspended for gross disregard of Govt. duty over not issuing of life-saving drug available at Central Pharmacy, GMCH to patient,” said the order dated December 2.
Earlier this year, a Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) contractual worker was detained for reportedly falsifying bills. MMCH has forwarded several bills connected to the hospital’s fuel procurement to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for countersigning. MMCH is a GMCH annexe hospital.
Two banknotes with the same serial number were discovered at GMCH. Eight of the banknotes provided were confirmed to be forged after additional scrutiny. The GMCH authorities filed a FIR, and a case (567/21) was opened in Bhangagarh Police Station based on the FIR. In this case, police detained Pradip Pathak, an MMCH contracted data operator. Further, he appeared in front of the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court and was detained in police custody for two days. In the meantime, suspect Pathak has been discharged from the MMCH.
