Guwahati News Desk: A cabinet meeting was held at Dispur chaired by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Some of the major decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting including the Municipal Act, 1956 and Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969.
As part of the several key decisions, one of the initiatives taken by the Assam government in the cabinet discussion is providing job opportunities to the families of those two persons who lost their lives in the tragic Majuli boat accident that took place in the month of September this year.
The two people killed were later identified as Parismita Das from Kahilipara, Guwahati and the other as Indreswar Bora who lived in Lakhimpur, Assam. The state government has decided to amend the Municipal Act, 1956 and Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969 for the rise in the involvement of women in representing the municipal bodies by allowing them with reservations for ten years so that this can enable them to participate effectively in the decision making. This decision by the Assam government was informed by Water Resource Minister Piyush Hazarika after the cabinet meeting.
Hazarika also informed about the cabinet decision of allotting 8.02 acres of land to Hereka Seva Trust to construct a cultural hub for promoting solidarity among people. The Cabinet also approved the proposal for the establishment of the Assam Agro-Forestry Development Board with the purpose of encouraging the farmers to plant more trees in their land. This step will work as a platform to build partnerships and alliances between industries, stakeholders and farmers.
The Assam government has also mentioned the amendment of the Assam Jail Service Rules, 1986 in the cabinet meeting held on Friday. Assam Jail Service Rules, 1986 will be amended with the objective to change the minimum educational qualification for recruitment of female warden to HSLC under the Directorate of Prisons.
The Cabinet has given the approval for Assam Procurement Preference Policy, 2021 which will focus mainly on small enterprises and local micros including other start-ups of Assam. Super Speciality hospitals in association with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati will be established as said by Minister Hazarika.
