Guwahati News Desk: Assam Congress MP from Barpeta constituency Abdul Khaleque has urges the government of Assam to ban selling of pork meat within 50-meter of radius of mosques in Assam.
The ban of selling pork was raised by the Congress MP as recently the government of Assam has proposed the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 in the Assam Assembly.
Barpeta MP Khaleque said, “The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 takes about the respecting sentiments, then I would appreciate if it also bans slaughter of pigs and sale of pork 500 meters around mosques as its forbidden in Islam religion”.
The banning of sale and slaughtering of cattle within the radius of 5 km of Hindu temple would virtually ban beef in majority of the parts in Assam as the new bill would indirectly communal tension in the State, added Congress MP Khaleque.
The new Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 has been placed in the Assam Assembly for the protection of the cattle in Assam on Tuesday.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led government proposed a bill in the assembly to protect the cattle’s as the proposal to ban cattle slaughter and sale of beef in the areas where Hindus, Sikhs, and Jain’s majority area in the State.
The new law proposed by the government of Assam is the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 which also asked to prohibit the sale and purchase of beef within the 5 km of the radius of a temple. The law will also seek transportation of cattle from one district to another district including outside Assam without proper documents will be illegal.
CM Sarma said, “The new legislation bill seeks to ensure that permission will not be given for slaughter in the areas of Hindu, Jain, Sikh and other communities and places who do not consume beef and selling ban within five-kilometer of the radius of a temple, satra and any other institutions that may be prescribed by the administration.”
