Guwahati News Desk: The Green Guwahati Project was formally inaugurated by MP Queen Ojha at Azara in Guwahati on Thursday.

During the inaugurating, a part of the project begun from Dharapur to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the project was inaugurated in the presence of Assam Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklaibaidya.

During the programme, MP Queen Ojha urges people to plant saplings during the monsoon season and to love nature for healthy living. Ojha also said, “Love nature as it permeates our daily lives. Or else it will wreck havoc on us as we are witnessing in some parts of the world.”

Plantation of trees can help to increase the level of oxygen in the atmosphere and on the other hand the world is facing problems to breathe due to scarcity of oxygen in the wake of the pandemic.

The Green Guwahati Project would cover the stretch from Aranya Bhawan situated at Panjabari to LGBI Airport at Borjhar as the project to make Guwahati a green and beautiful city in the next five years. Guwahati City being the gateway of northeast India, Forest Minister Suklaibaidya urged everyone to come forward and share their support to make it a grand success.

According to the sources, the forest department has planted more than 10 crore saplings in the past five years as the department is more focusing to go more massive plantation of saplings in the degraded forest areas under CAMPA and French Project.

Minister Suklaibaidya said, “We have to protect our environment otherwise, our very existence will be at stake. The ecological balance can be maintained through afforestation in a big way and that man-elephant conflicts can be reduced by preventing shrinkage in habitat of elephants by extending the green cover”.

Forest Minister appealed to other organisations to extend support to the Green Guwahati Project which can give a new natural route to Guwahati City in the next few years and to create Guwahati City surrounded by nature.
