Guwahati News Desk: A mass prayer was held by the residents of Guwahati for all the missing people of the tragic Nimatighat boat accident at Chandmari on Thursday.
The mass prayer was organised by National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) as many youths were seen burning down candle for the victim and missing people of the tragic accident took place at Nimatighat in Jorhat on September 8.
One died and three others reportedly missing in the boat accident that took place after a government passenger ferry of the Inland Water Transport Department of Assam carrying goods coming from Majuli to Nimati Ghat collided head to head with Maa Kamala private operator traveling to Majuli.
After the tragic accident, the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the construction work of the Majuli bridge will start in November and will be completed within four years.
A total of 41 personnel including 9 deep divers of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have conducted search operations with 7 boats and 167 personnel of 1st Bn. NDRF team stationed at Jorhat and 12th Bn. NDRF conducting search operation with 24 rescue boats with 30 deep divers.
Meanwhile, three engineers of the Department of Island and Water Transport have been suspended with immediate effect by the Government of Assam for alleged negligence which led to a massive boat accident.
