Sukalpa Dhar: Guwahati, the beautiful city by the bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra, is booming day by day. It has turned into a city of hope. Innumerable multinational companies and conglomerates are arriving to capture the ever growing marketing sector.
A number of geo-political developments that had taken place in recent times like ever growing posture of our northern neighbour, developments in Myanmar and Bangladesh etc had brought in sharp focus of our government on this region.
As a result of the new Governments initiative of ‘look east’ policy the entire scenario has changed. Earlier, markets and consumptions were mostly restricted to traditional products like agriculture, handloom etc, apart from tea and oil which were the two highly revenue earning products that are exported to other regions of the country.
With the changing scenario and arrival of new technological products and marketing techniques the entire logistics of operations have changed. The city of Guwahati, now a metropolis being the ‘Gateway to the East’ had to undergo radical change in its structure of logistic support to sustain these new developments. Government of the day have also realised the need of the hour and the agencies engaged for the development of the city have woken up for the purpose. As a result we could see an all round change in building adequate infrastructure to sub-serve the cause.
Apart from super highways and bypasses a number of flyovers are now dotting the city to relieve traffic congestions and maintain smooth supply lines. Beatification of the metropolis is another aspect that had not missed the authorities mind. Curving out new parks and boulevards for citizens and children has also been taken up in right earnest. Water parks or cruising over river Brahmaputra are the new means of entertainment the city dwellers as well as tourists can enjoy.
With lines of tall buildings and multi-storied, malls and supermarkets, multiplexes, restaurants and cafes lining the both sides of almost all major thoroughfares of the city, Guwahati can now be considered a facsimile of any metropolis of the world.
A good overview of today’s Guwahati. This will keep all updated about what’s happening in and around Guwahati at present.
