Bhaswati Das, Food Correspondent: Let’s welcome the Sunday with Prawn Ghassi in complete homemade style and know the Gaon recipe.
Ingredients :
1. 18 – 20 medium prawns.
Shelled and deveined.
2. Salt to taste.
3. Oil – 3 tbsp.
4. Roasted dried red chillies – 4
5. Coriander seeds – 2 tsp.
6. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp.
7. Black peppercorns – 8 – 10.
8. Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp.
9. Grated coconut – 1 cup.
10. Onion – 2 medium, finely chopped.
11. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
12. Garlic – 5 cloves.
13. Tamarind pulp – 1 1/2 tsp.
Method :
1. Wash the prawns thoroughly under running water. Drain and pat them dry. Sprinkle the salt and keep aside for one hour, preferably in the refrigerator.
2. Heat oil in a non – stick pan and saute the red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns and fenugreek seeds till fragrant.
3. Grind them with the coconut, half the onions, turmeric powder, garlic, tamarind pulp and sufficient water to a smooth paste.
4. Heat the remaining oil in a deep non – stick pan and saute the remaining onion till light brown. Add the ground masala paste and saute for 2 – 3 mins. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
5. When the mixture comes to a boil, add the prawns and adjust seasoning. Simmer for 5 mins or till the prawns get cooked.
6. Serve hot with steam rice.
