Guwahati News Desk: The suspension of flights to and from the United Kingdom has been extended by the center till January 7. The decision was made on Wednesday due to the rising number of new strain of coronavirus mutant.
The initial ban was until 31st December but till date the Union Health Ministry has reported 20 cases of the new variant.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on his tweeter handle wrote this morning, “Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from the UK till 7 January 2021. Thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly.”
He further added, “I foresee a slight extension of the temporary suspension because we are getting a fuller picture of what has happened. I don’t expect the extension to be a long or indefinite extension.”
The suspension came in effect from 11.59 p.m. on December 22.
