Guwahati News Desk: The Indian Army in Ladakh is facilitating the local residents of Turtuk village near the Line of Control in the production and distribution of apricots.
As part of the initiative, several apricot products such as jam, oil and even canned apricots are being sold to tourists in the Leh-Turtuk region.
The step taken by the Indian Army is primarily meant for enabling the local residents to become self-sufficient, and is also a part of the Indian Army’s outreach to people living in the border areas of the country.
In addition, the project was undertaken keeping in mind the potential offered by Turtuk block of villages in the sustenance of the canning plant.
According to sources, the total cost of the project is Rs. 30 Lakhs and 100% of the project has been financed through soft loans.
Moreover, the initiative has also succeeded in empowering women, further leading to significant job creation.
Furthermore, the initiative has rejuvenated and re-energised the micro-economy of Turtuk village, enhancing the image of the Indian Army amongst local residents.
