Guwahati News Desk: The inter-district public transport is likely to resume from September 1 which is to be updated in the revised SOP soon as announced by the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The government of Assam to come up with revised guidelines where inter-district public transport is likely to resume from September 1.
Earlier, inter-district travel was opened only for private vehicles across the State but it was still banned for public transportation amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The public transport industry is going into a big loss as the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has said to increase the bus fare by 50 per cent once the inter-district will be lifted for public transportation.
The demands also included financial assistance of the bus owners and drivers who were at a complete loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020.
All the buses owners and drivers were facing hard days since the beginning of the pandemic as limited passengers were allowed to travel amid the pandemic. The super busES and highway buses are suspended for four months amid the COVID-19 pandemic due to banned of inter-district travel.
AAMTA also opposed the decision as the government has still suspended the inter-district ban for buses but allowed only for private vehicles.
According to the sources, the new SOP might have changed in curfew timing as the shops and commercial business establishments are likely to remain open till 7 pm and the curfew timing might be extended till 8 pm.
