Guwahati News Desk: Indian Human Rights Organisation and National Confederation of Human Rights organized the International Human Rights Day on Friday at Golakganj and Dhubri. Both the organisations organized the awareness programmes to commemorate the day and also donated among the victims of human rights violations.
Secretary of State unit of National Confederation of Human Rights, an advocate of Gauhati High Court, Saijuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting at the hall room of Dhubri and spoke at a length on the violation of human rights in Assam.
Vice-President of State unit of National Confederation of Human Rights, Masud Akhtar Zaman while addressing the meeting pointed out many incidents of human rights violation including mob lynching of a young man in broad daylight, massacre in Nagaland wherein innocent labourers were killed and eviction of land encroachers.
On every other day, human rights of people are being violated in Assam, Zaman added. Speakers in both the meeting urged the people to be aware of their rights and also to approach the competent authority when they see human rights being violated around them.
International Human Rights Day was observed at Biswanath Chariali under the initiative of Human Rights, Biswanath. The programmes included tree plantation, distribution of fruits at Biswanath School for the handicapped and clothes among the needy people. The Dharitri Foundation, a leading environmental protection organization of Biswanath contributed to this programme. Human rights activist Niranjan Saikia, environmental activist Kumud Baruah were present on the occasion.
