Guwahati News Desk: The Italian luxury brand Bulgari has launched its first-ever exclusive-to-India jewellery, i.e. a gold mangalsutra.
The jewellery was launched after the brand announced Priyanka Chopra Jonas as its global ambassador in August this year.
The newly launched mangalsutra has been named as the ‘Bvlgari Bvlgari necklace’, which is made of 18 karat yellow gold and is set with round black onyx inserts and pave diamonds.
Referring to the necklace as a “contemporary statement of elegance”, the brand writes, “Recalling the curved inscriptions of ancient Roman coins, the double logo represented the first time an emblem had ever become a prominent jewellery design icon and remains a timeless trademark of Bvlgari’s creativity to this day.”
Priyanka Chopra herself has worn the mangalsutra for her latest Vogue India cover photoshoot.
However, the shock to Indians came when they noticed the price of the Bvlgari Bvlgari necklace. In the brand’s official website, the cost of the mangalsutra was given as a whopping Rs 3,49,000.
Moreover, while some were in love with the jewellery and its launch, several other netizens went ahead and criticized it as a symbol of patriarchal oppression.
