Guwahati News Desk: With the new coronavirus variant spreading in a rapid pace, Japan on Monday announced that it plans to suspend the entry of all foreign visitors from around the world.
The Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida informed that the measure will take effect starting on Tuesday.
As per the decision, Japan will be restoring border controls that it eased earlier this month for short-term business visitors, foreign students and workers.
Moreover, Japan had recently tightened the country’s entry restrictions for people arriving from South Africa and eight other countries, that required them to undergo a 10-day quarantine period at government-designated facilities.
Meanwhile, scientists in several places, i.e. from Hong Kong to Europe to North America, have confirmed the presence of the new Covid-19 variant.
Thus, noting that the variant has already been detected in many countries and that closing borders often has limited effect, the World Health Organization has called for the frontiers to remain open.
