Guwahati News Desk: A journalist was allegedly attacked at a toll gate. This incident took place in Bijni Toll Gate located at Dahalapara area of Chirang district where a journalist was allegedly assaulted by goons in the toll gate.
Dhiraj Chakraborty, the journalist from Bongaigaon who works in a news channel, said that the incident happened on Thursday night.
“I was coming from Guwahati in my car with one of my friends and reached the Toll Gate at about 9.30 pm.I produced my Press ID Card for relaxation of toll tax. But one of the staff said that relaxation under the Press Card had stopped and hence, I would have to pay double toll tax. I agreed to pay it and gave them the money. But at that moment, one of the staff, who was drunk, started abusing me. He also called some of his friends who were sitting at the toll gate. They had sticks and sharp weapons and also seemed drunk. They tried to attack me. I felt helpless at that moment and somehow managed to flee,” he said.
This is not the first incident in this toll gate where common people were harassed by staff and goons at the toll gate. Several such cases had taken place in the past in this toll gate. But the conscious section of people have questioned as to why no action has been taken against these goons yet.
