Guwahati News Desk: The accused of Gunjan Sharma kidnapping case of 2013, Bimal Bora was injured in a police firing at Kanjikhowa in Chabua on Wednesday.
According to the sources, the accused Bimal Bora was linked up with several robbery, kidnapping including car lifting and many more cases were reported in upper Assam.
Assam Police rushed on the spot after getting information of his presence. While police officialsâ team went to nab him, accused Bimal Bora fired at the policemen and in retaliation the policemen fired in his leg. Immediately after the shootout, he was admitted at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh district for treatment.
Police officials recovered a pistol and live ammunition from the spot. Earlier, on December 4, 2013, a daughter of a businessman, Gunjan Sharma (14) was kidnapped. Gunjan was a student of class 8 at the Kendriya Vidyala at Nazira in Sivasagar district.
Gunjan was abducted with 19 other school students. According to the sources, Gunmen took the 14-year-old Gunjan hostage and release other children. The accused fired the people who were chasing him and force the bus driver to take the vehicle towards Nagaland State.
On the next day Gunjan was found near the Assam-Nagaland border at Bihubhor where the gunman had freed her.
In recognition of her bravery, Gunjan received the first state bravery away by the former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi in 2014 and the award was comprised of Rs 2 lakh and later in the year 2015 she was conferred the Geeta Chopra award by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
