Guwahati News Desk: After the massive tragic boat accident that took place at Nimatighat in Jorhat, the government of Assam has directed Inland Water Transport (IWT) department to provided mandatory life jacket to it’s passengers for ferry communication.
The wearing of a life jacket was made mandatory in the Fancy Bazar – North Guwahati ferry service as it one of the busiest water transport communication in the State for the safety of the passengers.
After the massive boat accident reported in Nimatighat, the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma immediately suspended operation of single boat engine including ferry without life jacket.
According to the sources, life jacket was provided with the tickets and IWT officials urges all the passengers to wear mandatory jacket at the time of entering the ferry.
Speaking to a Guwahati City residence, “A nice step was taken by the government of Assam for providing mandatory wearing of life jacket in the ferry to it’s passengers but these things need to be carry always for the safety of the passengers”.
