Guwahati News Desk: Indian men’s Hockey team clinched the Bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics after successfully defeating Germany by 5-4 on Thursday.
The Indian’s men Hockey team won the medal after long 41 years but both the team lost in the semi-finals.
Earlier, in the year 1980 in Moscow Olympics India won the gold medal in Hockey which is the first Olympic medal. During the fight for bronze, Germany started off brightly from the beginning of the match but from the third quarter, India took the lead and managed to bring the bronze at home.
Germany takes the early lead by scoring within two minutes of the match and put the Indian defense in trouble in the first quarter. In the second quarter, India came back to the game as Hardik Singh and Harmanpreet Singh helped India to score goals as both the teams scored 3-3 by halftime.
In the Toyko Olympic tournament, Indian men’s Hockey team India defeated New Zealand by 3-2 in the opening group match and after that successfully picking up a victory against Germany by 2-0, Spain by 3-1, Argentina by 3-1, and Japan by 5-3. India lost only two matches in the tournament against Australia by 7-1 and against the world champion Belgium in the semi-final by 5-2. But for the Bronze medal, India defeated Germany by 5-4.
India has booked the fourth medal in the Tokyo Olympics following Mirabai Chanu clinched silver in weightlifting, shuttler PV Sindhu wins bronze and boxer Lovlina Borgohain won the Bronze medal.
