Guwahati News Desk: The Pentagon in United States lifted the lockdown roughly an hour and a half after multiple gunshots were fired near the Metro bus platform outside the building on Tuesday morning.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency, which had sent out a lockdown alert following the “shooting event,” said on Twitter, “The Pentagon has lifted the lock down and has reopened…We request that everyone stay away from the Metro rail entrance and bus platform area.”
In the shooting event that took place, the gunman was shot by a Pentagon police officer and did not get inside the Pentagon building. Also one other officer was killed in the incident.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said trains and busses were bypassing their stops at the transit center due to the investigation.
Regarding the shooting event of Tuesday morning, a Pentagon police officer was attacked and killed on the spot amidst the exchange of gunfires and outburst of violence. For which, the Pentagon station was expected to remain closed on Wednesday.
Initially, the Pentagon officials had not confirmed about the officer’s death, caused during the shooting event. But eventually the Pentagon police force confirmed the officerâs death.
Meanwhile, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Jeff McKay, had offered his condolences in a tweet stating that county flags will fly at half-staff on Wednesday and that the Fairfax County police would be ordered to wear formal mourning bands on their badges to honour the slain officer.
